Why Green screen?
When I don’t have the resources to use real props, I choose to build them in 3D software instead. What concerns me most at that point is the symbolism of the 3D props and environments. If I want to create something visually exciting, it also needs to have enough depth to make people believe in it. Unfortunately, that’s something I feel I haven’t fully achieved at this stage.
Still, I don’t blame myself for it. Ultimately, my goal is to convey emotional tension to the audience. Ideally, the work should be direct—an approach that grabs the viewer’s attention instantly. After all, this isn’t like a sculpture meant to be examined from every angle over centuries.
Yet, I believe my work carries something noble: the constant struggle against limited resources and time. It reflects the vision of someone trying to assert their own voice and demonstrate aesthetic.
Do I Against Costly Production?
No, I don't. I believe this is something every director should be involved in, if they have the opportunity.
Directors like Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, and Denis Villeneuve aren't just known for their films, but for the extraordinary lengths they go to in real-life production — efforts that are often costly, demanding, and deeply immersive. To me, filmmaking has a lot in common with magic. We're essentially fooling the audience, yet somehow that illusion earns us applause. Every time a shot changes, the lighting has to be completely reset. Continuity errors show up in nearly every movie. Around 90% of sci-fi films are shot in front of green screens — they're carefully crafted illusions that invite the viewer to sit down, suspend disbelief, and be convinced.
We have to create something meaningful, realistic whenever we can, no matter its cost.
Summary
I use green screen as an initial stage in filmmaking because it helps me achieve more than what's directly observable in real life. It also inspires my fellow performers, designers, and musicians to reach their full potential. If we can’t stand in a grand concert hall conducting a full orchestra, but we already have everything else, then stand in front of a green screen — and the audience will still see our potential.
The process is often full of excitement, and unexpected results are quite common. It satisfies our curiosity about surrealism, fuels our ambition to visualise beyond reality, and gives us the insight and power to influence others.
